Native Son: "Fear Is the Devil's Fire"Native Son: "Fear Is the Devil's Fire"

Arkadia Edu.Song #76004
$15.98 cassette & dual study guide

"He had to kill so he could get higher..."

An African-American who came of age during the Great Depression of the 1930s, Richard Wright was forced to contend with the twin evils of poverty and racism. Embittered by his experiences, Wright began to contribute pieces to radical publications such as the Daily Worker, a socialist-labor newspaper associated with the Communist Party. The same sense of mistrust and anger drove him to write Native Son, a powerful indictment of racial hatred and social injustice, the force of which still resonates today.
